CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The United Way of Southeast Missouri celebrated 70 years with a ribbon cutting on Tuesday.

Dozens of people gathered at the United Ways of SEMO’s office at 1417 North Mount Auburn Road, Suite D in Cape Girardeau to celebrate 70 years of giving.

United Way of Southeast Missouri fights for the health, education and financial stability of everyone in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Scott City, Perry County and Bollinger counties.

Lots of community members came together to recognize the success of the United Way. Elizabeth Shelton is the Executive Director of the United Way and she gave thanks to all the community partnerships who work closely with the United Way. 70 years of serving cape Girardeau and surrounding areas. They provide funding to help those who need it the most.  Through their many different programs the united way is the glue that holds a small community together. Cape Girardeau Mayor Stacy Kinder shares her appreciation for the organization.

It’s interesting that after 70 years they are so vital and relevant to the community and through the different programs and projects they do. You heard about the shear amount of money that has been brough into the community and programs and assistance that people need says Kinder.

If you would like to contribute or donate to the United Way Shelton says they always need volunteers and funding.

You can find out more information through their website.
