UPDATE: Two killed in Scott City residential fire

SCOTT CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — A residential fire broke out Wednesday in Scott City, claiming the lives of two victims.

The Scott City Fire Department responded to the blaze in the 300 block of East Cherry Street at 3:44 p.m. Heavy smoke was visible, and dispatchers reported possible entrapment.

The incident was upgraded to a working fire, prompting mutual aid responses from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, Chaffee Fire Department, Benton Fire Department, NBC Fire Protection District and Gordonville Fire Protection District. North Scott County Ambulance provided EMS standby.

A bystander rescued a child from a bedroom window before emergency personnel arrived. Scott City firefighters encountered heavy fire upon arrival and initiated rescue operations.

The severity of the fire and potential for additional victims led to a second-alarm response, drawing in more apparatus and personnel from regional departments. Air Evac 3 was dispatched to standby.

Two victims were located inside the residence during the search. The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office and Scott County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.

The Scott City Fire Department expressed gratitude to responding agencies and personnel for their assistance.
