Updated reading and writing standards approved for Kentucky schools

FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — Revised Kentucky Academic Standards for Reading and Writing have officially been adopted into law following a statewide review and revision process.

According to state education officials, the revision process began in fall 2024 and included input from Kentucky educators, community members and the public before review by the Kentucky Board of Education and final legislative approval.

The updated standards will take effect in Kentucky public schools beginning in fall 2026.

Officials said the standards are available through KYstandards.org, while previously archived standards will remain in use until implementation begins.
