Uptown Jackson Christmas Parade brings holiday spirit to downtown

JACKSON, Mo. (KBSI) – The lights, the holiday spirit, the music — all were on display Sunday evening at the Uptown Jackson Christmas Parade.

Uptown Jackson Revitalization Organization Executive Director Janna Clifton said you could feel the buzz around the parade hours before it started.

“Everyone’s lined up on the streets. There were chairs out here set up ready to go as soon as I got here before 2 o’clock today,” she said. “Everyone loves a Christmas parade. It just really brings the whole town together.”

Jackson Mayor Dwain Hahs rode in a special car toward the front of the parade. He said this parade really is an all-encompassing community event.

“This is all about Jackson,” he said. “Uptown Jackson turns out, they organize this parade, and then the people come out,” he said. “They’ve got over 100 entries of floats. They’ve got boy scout troops. We’ve got businesses that are in this. It really encompasses the whole city.”

Jackson teenager Jimmy Williams was the parade’s Grand Marshall. He teamed up with the Jackson Police Department to collect toys for children. This is the latest in a series of charitable efforts for Williams, who received a new heart in 2019 after being diagnosed with pediatric cardiomyopathy.

“There are kids like me in the hospital who didn’t have toys or anything to occupy themselves with, so having people come together to raise toys is just awesome,” Williams said.
