VA Medical Center seeks volunteers to support veterans’ care

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo., (KBSI) — The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center is seeking volunteers, particularly drivers for its Volunteer Transportation Network, to support Veterans’ medical care.

The network provides transportation to Veterans’ medical appointments, and volunteers use facility-provided vehicles and fuel.

“We’re seeking additional drivers in Farmington, Cape Girardeau, West Plains, Paragould and Poplar Bluff,” said Dale Garrett, chief of the facility’s Center for Development and Civic Engagement.

Volunteers can choose their schedule, and the facility aims to double its current volunteer numbers.

Other volunteer opportunities are available, including interviewing Veterans for the “My Life My Story” program, shuttle cart drivers, concierge volunteers and groundskeepers.

To become a volunteer, contact Garrett’s office at VHAPOPVoluntary-W@va.gov or 573-778-4276.
