Valentine’s Day boosts business in Cape Girardeau
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Valentine’s Day is projected to generate more than $27 billion nationwide, with nearly $200 per household, making it one of the biggest revenue drivers of the year.
Local businesses in Cape Girardeau are gearing up for the holiday rush, hoping to capitalize on the influx of spending.
Stores are stocked with roses, chocolates, and balloons, and special promotions are being offered to couples. Restaurants, like Soiree by Annie Laurie’s, are already seeing a surge in reservations. Owner Laurie Ray said the restaurant is completely booked for Valentine’s Day and expects the entire weekend to be busy.
“We’re very busy tonight, and we’re probably pretty booked on Saturday as well, but we’ll still take a few walk-ins at the bar. It’s going to be a very busy weekend,” Ray said. She added that Soiree, which opened seven months ago, is especially meaningful to her as she co-hosts the event with her husband, a chef.
Other local businesses are also feeling the love this season. Dustin Duncan, owner of D Duncan Floristry and Boutique, said Valentine’s Day is always a highlight. Duncan, who purchased the business in 2020, transformed it into a tribute to his late mother, grandmother, and grandfather, with the logo featuring three flowers to honor them.
“This is my sixth Valentine’s Day with the business,” Duncan said. “Our downtown community definitely stands out. We’ve seen growth since we opened in 2021, and we’re always changing, with new décor and seasonal items. I like to think we stand out.”
Valentine’s Day is not only an important holiday for local businesses, but it also brings people from across Missouri and beyond, making it one of the most profitable times of the year.
