MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — Illinois State Police say Interstate 57 southbound will remain closed for an extended period following a semi-truck fire near the Grassy Road overpass.

As of the latest update, southbound traffic is being diverted off the interstate at Exit 54 in Marion. No injuries have been reported, and cleanup operations are underway as crews work to reopen the roadway.

Drivers are being rerouted onto Illinois 13 and then south onto Illinois 148. Motorists can reenter I-57 using the IL-148 entrance ramp just north of the I-24 interchange. Police continue to detour traffic through the area.

Officials warn that southbound traffic is also experiencing backups north of Marion, and drivers should expect delays. Northbound lanes are not affected.
