Vehicle found after 1 arrested after hit-and-run crash in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Marion, Ill. man faces charges after a hit-and-run crash on September 26.
Dewone D. Miller, 37, faces charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving personal injury and aggravated battery.
On November 13, at 6:29 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of South Lewis Lane in reference to a report that Miller was in that area. Officers found Miller who ran on foot, but was arrested by officers after a brief foot chase.
Carbondale police asked for the public’s help finding the hit-and-run driver after officers responded to the 400 block of East Walnut Street on September 26 at 7:30 p.m. for a report of a hit-and-run traffic crash involving a pedestrian.
Officers found the victim with serious injuries. The victim was taken to a hospital by the Jackson County Ambulance Service.
Witnesses indicated the suspect vehicle was a silver or gray sports utility vehicle which was last seen turning south on South Graham Street from East Walnut Street.
Detectives utilized intersection cameras and privately owned cameras to identify the suspect vehicle as a 2010 Nissan Rogue with an Illinois license plate of K60 0864.
Carbondale police asked for the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle. On November 19, a tip from the public led detectives to obtain a search warrant for a location in Herrin where the vehicle was found concealed under a tarp in the backyard of a home.
The victim of the hit-and-run crash remained hospitalized on Nov. 21.
