Veteran motorcyclists escort Global War on Terror Wall of Remembrance

MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – The Global War on Terror Wall of Remembrance is making a stop at Mountain Dew Park in Marion, Illinois this fourth of July weekend.
A motorcycle group made of veterans escorted the Wall of Remembrance from Paducah to Marion for setup.
“VA has partnered with a lot of other organizations to make this celebration a wonderful event out here at the ball park in Marion,” said Zachary Sage, the Executive Director for the VA Medical Healthcare System.
The traveling memorial is in memory of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks as well as the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives defending our country.
“We want to honor them and tonight’s actually a very special night cause we’re actually going to have gold start members here, who literally have their sons on this Global War on Terrorism Wall of Remembrance,” said Mike Gasperini, Executive Director of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.
Setup for the wall began at 2 p.m. at Mountain Dew Park.
“It’s a healing part of combat when you lose loved ones, or you lose your battle buddy. Somebody who was in your company or your battalion,” said Gasperini.
The wall will be on display throughout the Thrillville Thrillbillies’ 4-day Star Spangled Celebration, and four game homestand, through July 3.
