VIENNA, Ill., (KBSI) — Vienna High School alumnus Connor Kline has enlisted in the Army National Guard and completed basic training, school officials said.

Kline, who enlisted during his junior year, finished his senior year at Vienna before traveling to Fort Benning, Georgia, for Advanced Individual Training as an 11B infantryman. The program provides hands-on and field instruction for soldiers entering specific Army jobs.

Kline plans to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale this spring and join ROTC with the goal of commissioning as an officer and entering active duty.

“I would like to thank Staff Sergeant Adam Lock for his guidance this past year,” Kline said. “I’m looking forward to serving as an infantryman with Company A, 2-130 Infantry, in Marion, Illinois.”

“Connor’s commitment to his country and diligence to succeed are inspirations,” Superintendent Joshua Stafford said. “Attending basic training after his junior year and now following his career plan is a strong example of what Vienna strives for all students.”

Vienna’s Career Connected Life Ready program provides support for post-graduation pathways. More information is available at viennahs.com/cc, or by contacting student career services director Leslie Bradley.
