Vienna basketball coach retires following four successful seasons

VIENNA, Il. (KBSI)- Head men’s basketball coach Stephen Dreher for the Vienna Eagles will be retiring following four successful seasons in Vienna High School’s program.
Under Coach Dreher’s leadership the Eagles won three Black Diamond Conference titles in a row, averaged 26 wins per year over the past three seasons and set a new school record for wins in a season with 29 wins.
The previous record of 24 wins was last accomplished in 2007 with five other Eagles Basketball teams from the past.
The Eagles have also enjoyed three straight 2nd place finishes in the Vienna Classic, A Consolation Championship in 2021, a 3rd place finish in 2022, and a 5th place finish at the Eldorado Holiday Tournament, and Consolation Championship in 2021, a 3rd place finish in 2022, and a 2nd place finish in the Superman Classic. The Eagles have reached the IHSA 2A Regional Championship game each of the last two seasons.
Dreher shares, “I was very blessed to coach such fine, young men, in such a wonderful community. I can not imagine going out of the workforce in any better way. I will deeply miss my time at Vienna High School. I very much appreciate the faith you showed in me and the support you have shown me through the years. I love the Vienna community, the schools, the students, the faculty and most of all the members of our Eagle basketball family. I believe that the future is very bright for the basketball program and the school in general. More kids are working on self-improvement around the county and we have dedicated coaches in place in the lower grades. My wish is that we continue to build on the current momentum and take the program to ever greater heights.” Vienna High School Athletic Director, David Hill says, “It’s hard to put a number on how valuable Coach Dreher has been to Vienna Eagles Basketball over the last four years, he has been a catalyst for enthusiasm during his tenure and will definitely be missed by a lot of people.”
