Vienna High School holds college expo

VIENNA, Ill. (KBSI) – Vienna High School invited surrounding high schools in the area to attend their college and career expo.

“So here at Vienna we really believe that the college and career planning begin when students enter their freshman year,” said Leslie Bradley,  director of Student Career Services.

She says she appreciates how the expo helps her students create connections with future careers.

“We really try to connect them with people who can be influential in their lives whether that’s a college rep, whether it’s a trade school,” said Bradley

More than 35 colleges, universities, trade schools and military institutions made an appearance at the expo.

Chloe Capron is a senior at Vienna High School. She says the expo helped her prepare for college and weigh her options.

“It really helped like decide what colleges I really liked and didn’t like,” said Capron.

Senior Bradan Goines says he found more than just colleges at the expo, and that his future career path hopefully lies within the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 318.

“318 is just a career path that I’m going to choose after high school, so I was just appreciative that more blue-collar jobs are showing up,” said Goines.

“I really feel like those two circumstances capture what is happening today (Wednesday), that students are leaving here with some pretty good ideas of what the next steps are,” said Bradley.

Vienna High School leaders stress the importance of college at the beginning of students’ high school careers.
