VIENNA, Ill., (KBSI) — Vienna High School is mourning the loss of sophomore Chesney Patience Gholson, who passed away over the weekend.
Chesney was an active member of the school community, participating in FFA, agriculture classes, Youth for Christ, and 4-H. Despite facing significant health challenges, she was known for her joyful spirit and her ability to bring a smile to those around her.
“While she had endured many health struggles, she was always one that could conjure up a grin in nearly any circumstance and was a joy to be around,” Superintendent Joshua W. Stafford said in a message to the school community.
Stafford also shared a fond memory of Chesney and her brother Rex from their childhood, recalling how they once jokingly accused him of being “the guy who steals our toys” after seeing him on television.
Quoting Psalm 34:18, Stafford wrote, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” He encouraged students and staff to find comfort in faith while remembering Chesney’s well-lived life.
Students wishing to attend Chesney’s service on Thursday may do so by making arrangements in advance with the principal’s office.
Counseling and support are available through the school’s student support services team, including Mrs. Edna Bundren, Mrs. Sara Goddard, Mrs. Julie Manley, and Mrs. Brandi Hammond.
Funeral arrangements and additional details can be found at Chesney Patience Gholson Obituary – Visitation & Funeral Information.
