VIENNA, Ill. (KBSI) – Vienna High School’s transportation department added two new bus drivers.

“Collectively, between the four grade schools, high school, and Dongola, the school system runs 20 morning and afternoon bus routes, which is just the beginning. On a daily basis, the schools also have routes to Shawnee Community College for the welding program, various routes for special needs students, routes to JAMP in Ullin, Project ECHO in Johnston City, autobody at Joppa, the Laborers construction program in Marion, along with numerous other academic, career-related, and extracurricular related trips. Being able to add Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Joiner to the team ensures that we are able to meet the needs of students and parents and also ensures the integrity of the transportation program,” said superintendent Joshua Stafford.

Jenifer Joiner has driven for Navarre Corporation. She drove veterans to doctor appointments, dialysis, and various other needs. Most recently, she drove for Robinson in Massac County.

“I am excited to be a part of the team at Vienna,” said Joiner. “I am looking forward to getting to know everyone. My main goal is to get all my kids to and from school safely. This is going to be a great year!”

Billy Thomas is also serving as a bus driver in the district. He most recently worked for Hillview Healthcare Center in Vienna where he served as the CEO and Social Service Director. He organized and scheduled appointments and drove residents to doctor appointments.

“I am very excited to join a group of extraordinary people and serve our community and families at Vienna High School,” said Thomas.

“I am glad to have Mrs. Joiner and Mr. Thomas,” said Principal John Giffin. “There are numerous schools, both locally and nationally, that have struggled to have enough bus drivers to get students to and from school, let alone to make all of the additional daily trips that are needed. With the school district covering over 300 square miles, not to mention traversing the region to ensure that our students get to where they need to be, transportation is a vital ingredient to providing a great education.”
