Vienna schools are getting students where they need to be

VIENNA, Ill. (KBSI) – Vienna Schools are getting students where they need to go more than ever after purchasing several new small buses.

“Transportation is a big deal in a school district that covers nearly 350 square miles. The system is the 9th largest in terms of geography, out of 850 in the state,” said Joshua Stafford, school superintendent.
According to the district the school system runs 25 daily shared routes, including morning and afternoon routes to and from school, as well as daily routes to vocational programs such as welding, construction trades, auto body, and routes to Project ECHO, JAMP, and special education routes.
In addition to the daily routes, students also have thousands of miles of field trips, sports, and various other extracurricular activities each year.
The school recently acquired three white activity buses, which will keep miles off of more expensive full-sized yellow buses, when group size allows, and will get students to the places that they need to go.
The school was able to acquire two of the buses for half of the cost due to finding them used with less than 20,000 miles on them.
