Volunteers still working nearly month after severe storms
SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – It’s been almost a month since the May 26 severe storm brought devastation to the southeast Missouri area.
However, people in Sikeston are pleased with the swift assistance made available by the American Red Cross.
They say volunteers are still working through the YMCA to ensure everyone who’s been impacted by the storm is seen and heard.
“It’s been so positive,” said Micheal Sullivan, executive director. “Everyone’s been so thankful for us to come in. As we walk the streets and assess the damage and we talk with those impacted, it’s been a good response. We’re very thankful for that and the communities that I was in, you know, neighbors helping neighbors, just having that resiliency is important.”
Recovery teams like Multi-Agency Resource Centers are additionally still working with storm victims individually to determine what needs need to be met.
If there are still individuals out there that were impacted with significant damage to their homes, they can still call 1-800-RED CROSS.
