Voters to decide on critical fire and life safety upgrades in April election
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – Residents in the 77-mile district will see “Proposition Fire & Life Safety” on the ballot this April. If approved, the measure would provide funding for several key initiatives:
– Purchasing a tanker/pumper apparatus and a brush apparatus
– Updating facilities
– Acquiring life-saving EMS and fire equipment
The proposed increase marks the district’s first request for a property tax hike since its formation in 1993. As the community grows and demand for services increases, the district is facing mounting maintenance costs, infrastructure needs and operational demands. Approval of the proposition could potentially lead to an improved district ISO rating, resulting in lower insurance premium costs for residents.
