HERRIN, Ill. (KBSI) – A man wanted in Williamson County was arrested after sheriff’s deputies found him hiding in an attic of a home in Herrin on Sunday.

Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies tried to serve a warrant at ahome in the 1000 block of South 16th Street in Herrin around 10:50 p.m. on Sunday, June 18.

Deputies were responding to an anonymous tip received through the sheriff’s office newly released app.

Deputies saw Christopher D. Gravett of Johnston City in the home. He was featured on the sheriff’s office “Warrant Wednesday” on June 7.

Deputies entered the home and found Gravett who tried to run from the deputies by hiding in the attic, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Law enforcement is quite skilled at locating persons the courts have issued warrants for,” said Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich. “We prefer those who have warrants to simply turn themselves in at the Sheriff’s Office and meet their obligations to the court. When that doesn’t occur our Deputies have repeatedly demonstrated their willingness to do whatever is necessary to locate these individuals; including the search of attics.”

Gravett was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
