Health department brings Wellness on Wheels with mobile health screenings

ANNA, Ill. (KBSI) – Over the next few months, Southern Seven Health Department is visiting rural areas in southern Illinois to help bring basic care with their Wellness on Wheels health screening event.

Shawnna Rhine, community outreach coordinator, says the van allows them to go into the rural areas where people otherwise have to travel miles to seek health care.

“It gives people who might not have ease of access to getting to regular doctor appointments to come in and get some of those basic things done,” said Rhine.

The services they offer are available to almost everyone.

“Pretty much over the age of 13 but we are doing COVID-19 vaccines,” said Rhine. “That again can be for anyone that’s over the age of five if you’re getting the Pfizer vaccine.”

The Southern Seven Health Department wants everyone who needs their services to come out without the fear of paying because many of the tests are free.

The next wellness event is on April 27 at Hardin County School in Elizabethtown from 10 a.m.  to 12:30 p.m.
