West Frankfort man arrested after accused of holding family member hostage

WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. (KBSI) – A West Frankfort man faces charges after the sheriff’s office received a call about a man holding a family member hostage.

William B. Ice III, 73, of West Frankfort faces charges of aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated assault.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call on Sunday, February 11 at 8:05 p.m. reporting that someone was holding a family member hostage and was armed with a handgun.

Deputies responded to the home and requested assistance from the West Frankfort Police and Illinois State Police.

Ice left the home around 10 p.m. He was still armed, but complied with orders from law enforcement and surrendered peacefully, according to Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon.

William was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Jail.

The family member was not injured.

The West Frankfort Police Department, Illinois State Police and West Frankfort Fire Department assisted the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
