West Frankfort Mayor responds to negative online commentary regarding livestock ordinance

WEST FRANKFORT, Ill., (KBSI) – Mayor Tim Arview said recent online commentary has misrepresented his office’s actions and intentions.

“While I believe in transparency and open dialogue, I also believe in protecting the dignity of our city processes and its people,” Arview said.

He added that he won’t engage in online arguments but will continue serving residents by working toward fairness, safety and lawful conduct. “The truth doesn’t require volume; it requires consistency,” Arview said.

Survey Results on Livestock Ordinance

 

A recent survey regarding a proposed amendment to the livestock ordinance in West Frankfort gathered 110 responses over two months.

Key findings include:

Residency: 100 respondents live in city limits, while 10 reside outside.
Familiarity with Ordinance: 91 respondents are at least somewhat familiar with the current ordinance.
Approval and Changes: 21 approve of the ordinance as it stands, while 70 would like to see changes. Specifically:

– Allow Chicken Ownership: 74 respondents support allowing residents to own chickens.
– No Changes: 15 respondents oppose changes to the ordinance.
– More Restrictive: 1 resident believes the ordinance isn’t restrictive enough.

City Council: The West Frankfort City Council, comprising Commissioner Kieth Howard, Commissioner Jerry Harkins, Commissioner Roger Stanley, Commissioner Linda Warren, may consider these survey results in future discussions on the livestock ordinance.
