“Wild Man Willie” loves the fast lane

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A local organization is pairing people with disabilities and able-bodied athletes.

“My Team Triumph” is an endurance, performance-friendly organization that supports and funds fitness experiences for local individuals with disabilities.

One of those individuals is known by his moniker, “Wild Man Willie,” who is one of those participants who also serves as team captain.

Willie lives with cerebral palsy and loves to go fast.

Fortunately, with a little push from his partner Douglas Ambler, he’s able to do just that.

“He’s extremely active and social and, you can’t not know him. [You] have a lot of fun when you’re around him. So, he’s been in around 50 events or so with us since he started participating with My Team Triumph. He loves to go fast, as most of us would love to, and he is always looking for another opportunity,” said Debbie Leoni with My Team Triumph.

Ambler and Wild Man Willie are training to participate in a 26.2 mile run at Tunnel Hill in southern Illinois this weekend.

It’s something Willie has never done before, but in pure Willie fashion, the passion is there.
