Williamson County deputies complete active-threat response training

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police completed an active-threat response training exercise Saturday at the Williamson County Courthouse.

The exercise concluded several days of training at locations across Southern Illinois. Officers participated in realistic scenarios focused on communication, decision-making, teamwork and coordination during critical incidents.

Sheriff Jeff Diederich said the training was intended to prepare deputies to protect the public during emergencies when every second matters.

“The courthouse belongs to the people of Williamson County, and those who enter it deserve to know that law enforcement personnel are trained and prepared to respond effectively during an emergency,” Diederich said.

Officials said the response techniques can also be used during emergencies at schools, businesses, public venues, homes and government buildings.

The joint exercise allowed deputies and state police officers to strengthen coordination before responding to a real emergency.
