GRAVES COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — A Wingo woman has been arrested following an investigation into suspected elder abuse, according to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s detectives said the investigation revealed that Heather K. Cole, 36, conducted 36 unauthorized transactions transferring money from the bank account of a 78-year-old woman. Authorities said the funds were moved into an account Cole opened in another person’s name without that person’s consent.

Investigators said the transactions left the victim unable to purchase basic necessities or pay bills. The stolen money was ultimately transferred to Cole’s Cash App account and spent, according to the sheriff’s office.

Cole was arrested late Monday afternoon, Dec. 15, at the Graves County Sheriff’s Office by Detective Sgt. Seaton.

Authorities said Cole has prior convictions for theft and bail jumping, as well as seven previous contempt of court convictions. The investigation remains ongoing.

Cole was transported to an out-of-county detention center.
