Woman, 75, hit by truck in McCracken County, nursing students rush to aid

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — A pedestrian was seriously injured in a collision with a vehicle in McCracken County on Thursday.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at 6:11 a.m. at the intersection of Old U.S. Highway 45 and Hillmont Drive.

Clayton Smith, 27, of Paducah, was driving south on Old U.S. Highway 45 when his 2021 Chevrolet Colorado pickup struck Teresita Lopez, 75, of Paducah, who was walking across both lanes of the highway.

Lopez sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken to an out-of-state hospital for treatment.

The sheriff’s office commended nursing school students Avery Greer and Carley Dowdy for stopping to assist Lopez at the scene.

Assistance was provided by the Lone Oak Fire Department, Mercy Regional Ambulance, McCracken County DES and Lent’s Towing.
