MARION, Ky., (KBSI) — A Paducah woman was arrested Monday following a multi-agency narcotics investigation that led to the seizure of approximately two pounds of methamphetamine, according to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives with the sheriff’s office drug division began investigating 42-year-old April M. McKenzie in April after identifying her as a suspected source of methamphetamine in western Kentucky.

Investigators said McKenzie was believed to be traveling through several counties during the investigation. The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office worked with Kentucky State Police and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation continued.

Authorities said McCracken County detectives were conducting surveillance on McKenzie on May 11 when Kentucky State Police Trooper TJ Williams conducted a traffic stop shortly before 5 p.m. along U.S. 641 near Marion.

During the stop, a McCracken County Sheriff’s Office narcotics detection K-9 alerted to the vehicle. Investigators then conducted a probable cause search and discovered approximately two pounds of crystal methamphetamine concealed inside the engine compartment, according to authorities.

McKenzie was arrested without incident and lodged in the Crittenden County Jail.

She was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine — second or subsequent offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and excessive window tinting.

Investigators said McKenzie has prior convictions for methamphetamine trafficking and the case may be considered for federal prosecution through the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The investigation remains ongoing.
