Woman arrested after reported armed robbery, foot chase in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A St. Louis woman was arrested Wednesday following a reported armed robbery and brief foot chase in Carbondale.

Officers responded around 12:35 p.m. to a business in the 600 block of East Walnut Street after receiving a report of a robbery in progress.

Carbondale police said a woman approached a victim, displayed what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money before leaving with the victim’s property.

Officers found the suspect nearby, still carrying what appeared to be a firearm, according to police. Officers disarmed and arrested her after a brief foot chase.

Stacy K. Cole, 33, was arrested on suspected charges of armed robbery and resisting a peace officer. She was being held in the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing.

No injuries were reported. Police issued a civic alert asking the public to avoid the area while officers searched for the suspect.

The charges are accusations. Cole is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
