JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — A woman has been arrested in connection with a homicide discovered last week in rural Belle Rive, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives arrested Jasmine L. Farny, 31, of Dahlgren, on the evening of Feb. 2 in connection with the Jan. 31 killing of 47-year-old James D. Cross. Cross was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in a parking lot in the 21800 block of East Bonnie Road.
Deputies were called at about 7:12 a.m. Feb. 1 after a reporting party discovered Cross’ body. Investigators said Farny and Cross knew each other and had a previous dating relationship.
Authorities said Farny was interviewed the evening of Feb. 1 and again the afternoon of Feb. 2. Following the second interview, she was taken into custody and lodged in the Jefferson County Jail, where she is awaiting a pretrial detention hearing on a charge of first-degree murder.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details have been released.
The sheriff’s office said it was assisted by detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse, Jefferson County State’s Attorney Patrick Costa, Illinois State Police crime scene technicians and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Farny is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
