Woman faces murder charge after deadly Butler County shooting
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KBSI) – A woman was arrested and faces charges after a deadly shooting in Butler County.
Lesa Dawn Alcorn of Fredericktown faces charges of murder second degree and armed criminal action.
“This is a situation that totally didn’t require firearms. There was no reason any of this couldn’t have been talked through.”
Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs said the incident that took 45-year-old Matthew Wilkerson’s life reached a boiling point it should have never gotten to in the first place.
“There were four parties, four individuals involved, and none of the four picked up the phone and called 911,” Dobbs said. “It was a situation that definitely warranted law enforcement being involved.”
The incident occurred in the 600 block of County Road 544 at around 5:30 Tuesday evening.
Dobbs said they have a good understanding of the sequence of events that ended with Wilkerson being shot.
“It’s a very complicated situation that happened over a series of hours of two people bickering with one another, which escalated bit by bit into a point where firearms were involved and it resulted in somebody’s death,” Dobbs said. “There’s really no telling how it will turn out, what the outcome will be. It’s a very interesting case.”
