Woman facing burglary charge after nail guns, dish sponge stolen

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A woman faces a burglary charge after sheriff’s deputies say she stole two nail guns and a dish sponge.

Williamson County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a report of a burglary in the 1500 block of Route 37 Marion on Saturday, January 27 at 12:01 p.m.

The victim reported that two Bostitch nail guns and a dish sponge were stolen from the home.

The owner has been remodeling the home and told deputies he had a suspicion that somebody has been coming into the abandoned property during the past week.

Deputies discovered the homeowner had hidden apple air tags inside some of the stolen items.

Photos of a female inside the home were captured by a trail camera previously hidden in the home by the owner.

Using AirTag tracking information provided by the homeowner, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office investigators responded to a home on South Third Street in Marion.

Investigators saw a Bostitch tool box sitting on the dash of a vehicle in the driveway.

The victim was contacted and triggered the AirTag to make an audible sound which investigators could hear coming from inside the vehicle.

Christie N. Schultz came out of the home. Schultz matched the description of the female from the trail camera images, according to sheriff’s deputies.

She told deputies the vehicle belonged to her and that she obtained the tool in the vehicle from an abandoned home. She said she took one of the stolen tools into her home, according to the deputies.

Investigators recovered two Bositch nail guns and a dish sponge.

Schultz was arrested and cited for burglary.

She was taken to the Williamson County Jail.

The stolen items were returned to their rightful owner.
