Woman found safe after search in Williamson County woods

MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — A 48-year-old woman was found safe Tuesday evening after a search effort in rugged wooded terrain south of Little Grassy Lake in Williamson County.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of the lost woman around 5:54 p.m. after she had been mushroom hunting in the woods.
Deputies organized ground search teams and located the woman about a mile into the woods at approximately 7 p.m.
She was found unharmed and able to hike back to the staging area with deputies.
Sheriff Jeff Diederich credited the woman’s prior notification to someone about her whereabouts and her ability to call for assistance before her phone battery died for the successful outcome.
The search effort involved assistance from Lake of Egypt Fire, who responded with an ambulance, UTV and brush truck.
