Woman killed in East Cape Girardeau fire

EAST CAPE GIRARDEAU, Ill. (KBSI) – Fire crews responded to a house fire at the 0-100 block of Apache Circle.

After putting out the fire in the one-story home, crews discovered a body identified as 66-year-old Katherine Kelley.

During the fire, the rear of the home suffered most damage with clouds of black smoke filling the air.

The McClure-East Cape Girardeau Fire Protection District, Illinois State Police and the Illinois State Fire Marshal responded to the area.

It’s not clear what caused the fire.

The state fire marshal is still investigating.
