PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — A man was arrested early Saturday in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman at a Paducah nightclub, police said.

The Paducah Police Department responded at about 3:14 a.m. Dec. 13 to reports of a shooting at KC’s Bar and Grill in the 3500 block of Park Plaza Drive. Witnesses told police that a man, later identified as Phillip S. Whitnel, entered the business and shot the woman multiple times before fleeing.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators said Whitnel and the victim had previously been in a relationship. Based on information gathered during the investigation, detectives obtained a warrant charging Whitnel, 38, with murder involving domestic violence.

Police later tracked Whitnel into Illinois. Illinois State Police located him during a traffic stop in Franklin County, Illinois, and arrested him on the warrant.

Whitnel is being held at the Franklin County Jail pending extradition to Kentucky. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released.

The Paducah Police Department thanked the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police for their assistance.
