MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (KBSI) – A southern Illinois woman pleaded guilty to first-degree murder Monday in Jackson County.

Alexis Stallman, 41, pleaded guilty in connection with the death of Edward Stallman.

Her jury trial is set for November 6.

Jackson County sheriff’s deputies responded around 10:49 a.m. on Wedneday, July 20, 2022 to reports of a crash at an Illinois Department of Transportation work zone at the intersection of Highway 127 and Ava Road in Murphysboro.

Edward Stallman was rushed to the emergency room, but appeared to have a “puncture wound to his chest” that was not consistent with a vehicle crash injury, according to Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez.

He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving to the emergency room.

Witnesses said Alexis came to the IDOT work site and got into a verbal fight with Edward just before the crash, according to Cervantez.

Her vehicle was still on scene when detectives found a bloodied kitchen knife in her purse on the front passenger floorboard, according to Cervantez.

He says DNA analysis revealed that the blood belonged to Edward.
