Young child dies in Carlisle County crash

CARLISLE COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – A young child died in a crash in Carlisle County Sunday morning.

Carlisle County Dispatch was notified just before 11:20 a.m. on June 21 of a two-vehicle collision on US-62 near the intersection of KY-307 in Carlisle County.

A Kentucky State Police trooper in the area responded to the scene with Carlisle County Sheriff’s deputies.

The KSP collision reconstruction team also responded to the scene at the request of Carlisle County Sheriff’s Office and KSP began the collision investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Lucas E. Shehorn, 35, of Bardwell was driving a 2020 Nissan Rouge eastbound on US-62 with a 4-year-old passenger. Michelle Chapman, 55, of Paducah was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox westbound on US-62.

For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles crash on US-62 near the intersection of KY-307, according to KSP.

A juvenile passenger of Shehorn’s vehicle was taken by ground to an area hospital and then by air to an out-of-state hospital where she later died.

Shehorn was also taken by air to an out-of-state hospital for injuries.

Michelle Chapman was taken by ground to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Due to the severity of damage resulting from the collision, it is still under investigation whether restraints were utilized properly.

The investigation remains ongoing.
