Young hunters harvest more than 11K deer in MO’s early youth portion

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – More than 11,000 deer were harvested during Missouri’s early youth portion of the 2023 deer hunting season.

Hunters ages 6-15 harvested 11, 118 deer during Missouri’s early youth portion of the 2023 deer hunting season from Oct. 28-29, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Top counties:

  • Franklin: 258 deer harvested
  • Osage: 224 deer harvested
  • Texas: 209 deer harvested

Deer harvested:

  • 6,857 antlered bucks
  • 3,410 does
  • 851 button bucks

MDC’s Cervid Program Supervisor Jason Isabelle says that low temperatures likely caused deer movement, however, combined with the rainy weather from the weekend may have reduced the time for young hunters to were able to go afield.
