Yule Log Cabin: 35 years of making Christmas memories

SCOTT CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – It’s not exactly your run-of-the-mill cabin in the woods.

For 35 years, the Yule Log Cabin has invited those who wish to venture across the rolling hills of Scott County to a place where Christmas wishes become reality.

Owner Joannie Smith outlined the story of how the Yule Log Cabin came to be.

“Years ago, I started growing Christmas trees, and I had a small cabin to stay warm in while I was selling the Christmas trees,” she said. “I thought I’d have a few things. Well, it grew and grew and grew, and 35 years later, we’ve got 185 decorated Christmas trees.”

Yes, 185 trees! And they are all uniquely decorated.

And speaking of unique, Smith said that word describes the Yule Log Cabin better than possibly any other.

“First of all, the setting is unique. It’s down a gravel lane in the woods in Scott County, Missouri, and I think that the extensiveness of it. There’s really something for everyone on your Christmas list,” she said.

Smith elaborated on what is part of that so-called extensiveness.

“First of all, they can come out and shop for their home, shop for décor for their home for Christmas,” she said. “And a lot of people will buy a Christmas ornament for everyone on their Christmas list. It’s a very fun thing to do. It also creates a memory tree where your Christmas tree is actually a history of your family.”

And so, with all this Christmas magic packed into one place, the Yule Log Cabin truly can be a place where Christmas memories are made.
