Sunny Start, Chance for Friday Afternoon Showers and Storms

Summer-like temperatures are in the forecast for the close of the work week in the Heartland. We get off to a sunny start, with the chance for a shower or thunderstorm by Friday afternoon.

StormCast shows the potential for a brief sprinkle overnight ahead of better chances for showers and possibly a storm or two on Friday evening into Saturday morning.

The potential for severe weather is low, but not zero. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather is in place for the viewing area, with quarter-sized hail and 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts possible in the strongest storms.

Temperatures early on Friday morning will be close to average in the 50s for the majority of the viewing area.

Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies through the overnight in Cape Girardeau, with a light southeasterly wind continuing into Friday morning.

High temperatures across the area will take a jump above average into the middle and upper 80s on Friday afternoon.

While we are off to a sunny start in Cape, we cannot rule out the chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm.

Chances for storms will carry over into Saturday morning before partly sunny skies arrive in the afternoon. Warmer weather sticks around through the weekend with another chance of storms late Monday through the day on Wednesday. Temperatures will finally return to the 70s towards the end of next week.
