Residents, agencies aid Glenallen after tornado
GLEN ALLEN, Mo. (KBSI) – Many gathered just minutes after the tornado hit Glen Allen, Missouri, rushing to the aid of family, friends, and neighbors.
As more news comes out from this tornado, many will be looking to help restore the area and others will be looking for shelter after damages to their homes.
Matthew Haynes, a Marble Hill resident, wasted no time helping Glenallen residents moments after the tornado.
“See we can help anybody out there pushing us all push pushing us away but that was for them to survey everything and then I just got word that they’re taking volunteers so I was like I’m going to volunteer again go see if we can help small people,” said Haynes.
The American Red Cross joined with the Marble Hill Baptist Church to open a shelter for those displaced.
Marble Hill Baptist Church Pastor Andrew Green says that he knows families are coming and they are ready to help.
“They’re going to shelter people I know we have two families already supposedly headed this way we’re going to feed people tonight we’ll have hot food for whoever needs to come and eat,” said Green.
Green says that being able to open their doors to those in need, is important to him.
“We can I’m glad we have it available so that it means I know it means a lot to the community,” said Green.
Search and rescue crews from stations as far as St. Louis came to help.
Haynes waited at Woodland Elementary where community leaders called for volunteers and anyone that wanted to help pick up debris and hand out food and water.
“In times like this the community should come together and just like all work together and just pretty much pray for all the families and go help them,” said Haynes.
If anyone is looking to help volunteer Bollinger County is asking volunteers to come to Woodland School at 8:00 a.m Thursday.
