Traffic stop leads to drug arrest in Williamson County
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces drug charges after a traffic stop in Williamson County.
Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on June 30 at 1:22 a.m. that had a person known to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
The driver, Joseph M. Leady, was confirmed to have an active Williamson County arrest warrant for failure to appear in court on charges of methamphetamine possession.
Leady was ordered to exit the vehicle. He would not exit on his own and was assisted by deputies out of his vehicle, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
An investigation determined that the driver was a convicted felon and his driver’s license had been expired since 2008.
Deputies found the following items were located in his vehicle:
- 9.92 grams of methamphetamine
- 20.94 pounds of cannabis
- 31 grams of THC wax
- 2.1 grams of hash
- Multiple calibers of firearm ammunition
- Schedule 2 controlled substances (Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine 30mg)
- Drug packing materials
Leady was arrested and faces charges of possession with the intent to deliver cannabis over 5,000 grams, methamphetamine delivery 5<15 grams, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating uninsured vehicle and no valid driver’s license.
Leady was served a Notice of Asset Forfeiture, provided a hearing date, and told that the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office intends to seize $435 of US currency and a 1997 Ford Ranger pickup truck based on its use by him in the furtherance of the drug trade, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
