Woman killed in five-vehicle crash on Interstate 55

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A Dexter woman died after a five-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on southbound Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau.
Police responded around 4:40 p.m. near mile marker 95. Investigators said traffic was stopped because of road construction and a closed right lane.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2016 Dodge Ram driven by Scott Littrell, 37, of Scott City struck the rear of a stopped 2011 Honda Accord. The impact sent the Accord over a cable barrier and into the median.
Police said the pickup then went airborne and landed on a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. The Impala was pushed into a 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe, which then struck a Volkswagen Tiguan.
The Accord’s passenger, Tiffany Worley, 23, of Dexter, was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. The driver, Austin Worley, 23, also of Dexter, suffered moderate injuries.
The Impala’s driver, Berenice Fabian, 29, of Benton, and two children in the vehicle were also taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.
Police identified the other drivers as Tyler Mullenix, 38, of Scott City, and Abbey Hussey, 30, of Cape Girardeau.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department’s crash reconstruction team continues to investigate.
