Mt. Vernon man facing charges after 2 stabbed in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, Ill. (KBSI) – A Mt. Vernon man faces charges after police were called to a fight involving weapons.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Mt. Vernon Police Department responded to the area of N. 11th and George streets in Mt. Vernon early on Saturday, September 2 after receiving a report of a fight in progress involving weapons.

When they arrived, they found multiple people. Two people had apparent stab wounds, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The fighting had already stopped when they arrived, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities arrest Bobby J.D. Berner, 18, of Mt. Vernon. He faces four felony counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Berner was taken to the Jefferson County Jail. His bond is to be set by a judge.

The investigation into the remaining aspects of the fight is ongoing.
