PORCH Initiative begins demo on rehab project in South Cape
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – People Organize to Revitalize Community Healing, also known as P.O.R.C.H., celebrated beginning the rehab of a home Friday morning.
PORCH is an initiative for first-time home buyers.
“We believe these goals are attainable, and we will strive to build productive partnerships with our local government, businesses, existing community organizations, schools and institutions to return the south side to the PORCH mindset. Together, we can recreate an economic and social vibrant place for south side residents and the Cape Girardeau community at large,” according to capeporch.org.
PORCH representatives celebrated the rehab of a home Friday morning at 1143 S. Pacific in Cape Girardeau.
DJ Goodson with Wausau Homes in Cape Girardeau and Perez Home Construction are working on the project. It should take 8-12 weeks to complete.
The PORCH Initiative purchased four homes to renovate.
In the first phase of the Housing Initiative, PORCH worked with multiple families to assist them in purchasing homes in South Cape Girardeau.
The second phase of the Housing Initiative has PORCH purchasing and rehabbing four homes in South Cape Girardeau. They will then be made available to first time home buyers.
Private donations funded the purchase and renovation of four homes in South Cape Girardeau.
