Elephant Rocks State Park in Iron County was voted as Missouri’s top pick. It was voted in #18 position nationally.
Beyond its iconic granite boulders, the park’s hardwood forest undergoes a captivating transformation into a symphony of reds, oranges, and yellows during autumn. This off-the-beaten-path destination offers a unique and lesser-known opportunity to admire the seasonal splendor while exploring the park’s distinctive geological formations.
Other locations in Missouri that made the list…
#108 Onondaga Cave State Park
The park’s mix of hardwood trees burst into a captivating array of colors during the autumn months, offering a striking contrast against the limestone bluffs and cave entrances. Its lesser-known status ensures an intimate encounter with the changing leaves, making it an ideal destination to appreciate the beauty of fall colors while exploring the park’s hiking trails.
#134 Ha Ha Tonka State Park
Within its rugged landscapes lie dense forests that undergo a dramatic transformation, where oak, hickory, and maple trees unveil a kaleidoscope of reds, oranges, and yellows. This vivid display is enhanced by the park’s iconic castle ruins, spring-fed lake, and the dramatic karst features, offering a stunning contrast off the main tourist radar.
