Man on bicycle faces drug charges after leading sheriff’s deputies on chase

COLP, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces drug charges after Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a man on a bicycle.
Don E. ‘Punkin’ Taylor faces charges of possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting a peace officer.
Deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office were on patrol near the intersection of Andrew Springs Road and Garfield Street in Colp on October 19 around 12:15 a.m.
While in the area they saw a male riding a bicycle in the road without required lighting.
Deputies made a U-turn to investigate the man on the bicycle. He began to pedal faster and turned into an alleyway between Johnson Street and Lincoln Street, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies started a traffic stop by activating the patrol vehicles emergency lighting system. After the emergency lights were engaged, the man pedaled through residential back yards in the the 100 block of South Lincoln Street, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
Taylor was known to deputies from prior law enforcement contact.
Taylor got off the bicycle at the front of his home and walked toward the front door.
Deputies ordered Taylor to stop and he failed to comply, continuing to flee, according to deputies with the sheriff’s office.
He continued to refuse to yield and deputies saw him moving toward a makeshift table on the front porch of his home.
Deputies drew a Taser and pointed it at Taylor who continued to resist after additional warnings, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Taser was deployed and Taylor was arrested.
An investigation found 2.32 grams of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Taylor was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
