1 dead, 1 injured after crash in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – One person died and another has serious injuries after a crash Monday night in Franklin County.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a traffic crash on South Thompsonville Road just north of the Franklin/Williamson County line around 8:21 p.m. on December 11.

The caller reported two involved vehicles and said that the crash was head on.

Deputies and other emergency services personnel responding to the scene found the crash involved a 2016 Toyota Camry and a 2005 Ford F350 truck. The vehicles struck head on.

Both vehicles had significant damage.

The driver of the Camry, Devin Chase Stanley, 32, of Galatia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the F-350, Ryan K. Sauerhage, 38, of Macedonia sustained serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene.

There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

The Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit was requested to assist in the investigation. Cave-Eastern Fire, West Frankfort Fire, AMR Ambulance, Saline County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Emergency Management Agency, and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
