‘Angels’ needed for donations to Salvation Army of Paducah Angel Tree program

PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – The Salvation Army in Paducah issued an urgent call to the community for support as the Angel Tree program faces a critical shortfall.

“We extended the time to this Friday,” said Britteney Donegan, Lieutenant for the Salvation Army in Paducah.

Lieutenant Donegan says they are missing 225 angels. Because of this, they have extended drop off times for toys.

“This is really important to the community because the Salvation Army does this to help families in need, in our community that are not otherwise able to provide Christmas for the children,” said Conegan.

There is a real risk that some children may wake up on Christmas morning without anything to unwrap.

The Salvation Army will go shopping for as many angels as possible with the funds available.

Gail Ruga is a volunteer for the Salvation Army. She has been volunteering due to her time as an educator.

“It’s always been dear to my heart, having been an educator and seeing children over the years, who’s Christmases are not anything to look forward to,” said Ruga.

The Salvation Army has had an increase in requests for assistance this year due to inflation costs on everyday items such as food, housing and utilities, which are putting a greater strain on families’ budgets.

“We want our community to be a successful community,” said Ruga. “We want people who are living here working here, we want them to stay here and continue to contribute.”

Distribution of the gifts to families is scheduled for December 20.

However, people are encouraged to bring in their angel gifts sooner rather than later.

The designated drop off location is 5187 Hinkleville Road in Paducah. Salvation Army leaders urge the community to return the adopted angel gifts no later than Monday, December 18.
