John C. Durborow faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of adult use cannabis in a motor vehicle and illegal transportation of alcohol.
Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Illinois Route 13 at 7:33 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
A traffic stop was conducted in the area of Illinois Route 13 and Walton Way in Marion.
McCann was identified as the drive, while deputies spoke with him, they saw his hands to shake violently and that he had difficulty performing fine motor skills including the production of his driver’s license and insurance information.
Deputies saw McCann and Durborow to have rapid shallow breathing. Durborow exhibited unusual behavior, stating “don’t look at my girls” as he tried to draw the deputies’ attention to several illicit photographs while searching his cell phone for a photo of his identification card, according to deputies with the sheriff’s office.
Durborow then displayed an image of his identification card to deputies multiple times after having already done so.
Deputies returned to the suspect’s vehicle to speak with Durborow and asked him if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. Durborow acknowledged there was a cannabis blunt on the vehicle’s dashboard, according to deputies.
A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and deputies found the cannabis blunt and an additional unsealed plastic container of cannabis in the vehicle’s cup holder.
Deputies also found a clear plastic bag of cannabis under the driver’s seat.
While searching the vehicle’s center console, deputies found a small glass vial containing methamphetamine.
The center console was not fastened to the vehicle. Under the vehicle’s center console deputies found a small cardboard box wrapped in black electrical tape. The box contained two white glass smoking devices with methamphetamine residue, two small straws with methamphetamine residue, two vials containing methamphetamine, and two small plastic bags with methamphetamine residue, according to the sheriff’s deputies.
Deputies also found a police badge in a small black bag beside the vehicle’s driver seat, a set of police style handcuffs hanging from the rear view mirror, and a silver handcuff key on McCann’s keychain. Neither occupant is or has been a member of any law enforcement agency, according to the sheriff’s deputies.
These items were not displayed in a manner to meet the statutory requirements of impersonating a peace officer. The police badge was surrendered by the suspect without having to take additional enforcement action.
McCann and Durborow were taken to the Williamson County Jail.
