Viral Stanley cups contain ‘some’ lead

Stanley

(KBSI) – Do Stanley Cups contain lead? According to a statement from Stanley International made to USA TODAY they do.

Social media users have posted their at home lead test kits on their Stanley cups and many of them report their findings were positive.

Stanley International says the small amount of lead does not come in contact with the inside of the cup but is located at the bottom of the outside of the cup and that is what causes the at home test kits to show positive.

“We seal our vacuum insulated stainless steel products with an industry-standard pellet that includes some lead. The pellet is completely enclosed by a stainless-steel cover, making it inaccessible to users,” says Stanley International

“Please rest assured that no lead is present on the surface of any Stanley product that comes in contact with you or the contents of your container,” Stanley International said in a statement to USA TODAY.

All Stanley Cups meets U.S. regulatory requirements and are considered safe for consumers.

To know if your cup is safe you can have a reputable lead test done you can send a sample to National Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program List | US EPA.
