Wanted man in Jackson County arrested for unlawful use and possession of a weapon

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) – On May 5, 2024, officers of the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to the 700 block of South Lewis Lane for a disturbance.
As officers investigated, one individual fled and was apprehended after a brief foot chase.
The suspect was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm.
The suspect, Ambrose N. Godsey, 21 of Carbondale, did not possess a Firearm Owners Identification Card and was found to be wanted on a Jackson County arrest warrant for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon stemming from an incident in Carbondale on April 17, 2024.
Godsey was arrested for the warrant and charged with additional charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer and Firearm Owners Identification Card Required.
Godsey was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.
Investigations into both incidents remain active and ongoing.
Prior investigations- Shots Fired Investigation from April 18
Carbondale – On April 17, 2024, at 10:23 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the area of South Poplar Street and West Freeman Street after multiple reports of shots fired.
The suspects fled the area prior to officers arriving.
Officers learned there were no injuries as a result of the incident but, there was damage to a building as a result of the shots fired.
During the course of the investigation, officers learned two black males were seen running westbound on West Freeman Street from the area during the incident.
One suspect was wearing all dark clothing, and the other suspect was wearing a light-colored sweatshirt.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
